New Governor assumes charge in Kerala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Karnataka Governor, Mr T.N. Chaturvedi, on Wednesday assumed additional charge of Kerala, following the death of Mr Sikander Bakht.

Mr Chaturvedi was sworn in by Mr Justice Cyriac Joseph of the Kerala High Court at a solemn function at the Raj Bhavan here.

The Chief Minister, Mr A.K. Antony, and the Speaker of the State Assembly, Mr Vakkom Purushothaman, were among those who attended the function. Earlier on Tuesday night, Mr Bakht passed away at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College due to complications arising from a surgery performed on him for an intestinal affliction.
