SPAIN, a modern, rich and vibrant western European nation, is keen to attract more "big spending, adventurous" Indians to its shores.
India is still a "developing market" for Spain and Indian arrivals to the country stood at around 10,000 passengers. However, it sees the potential to grow this number manifold given the many "common links" shared by the two countries.
In its first promotion in India, the Director of New Markets, Turespaña, Ms Paloma Notario, said that growth was unlikely to happen in a hurry and would take more than a couple of years to happen. The Spain Tourism Board's Director for SE Asia, Australia, New Zealand and India, Mr Miguel Nieto-Sandoval, said the board would conduct seminars and workshops with travel agencies, besides running a small ad campaign to promote the destination in India.
Queried on the visa process, he said anyone planning a trip to Spain should apply in advance with all the papers required to be successful.
