IT Training `India can emerge e-learning hub' V. Rishi Kumar
Hyderabad , Feb.27 INDIA has the potential to become a hub for custom-designed e-learning. Estimated to grow to about $23 billion by the end of the year 2004, e-learning is projected to blossom into a $182-billion space by 2009. Dr Rajiv Tandon, Chief Executive Officer of Adayana, an e-learning solutions provider, is upbeat on the opportunity it offers to Indian entrepreneurs. As one associated with about 300 start-ups in 30 years, Dr Tandon initiated several ventures including a large firm that was acquired by General Motors for $1 billion. In the year 2001, LearningByte, a company floated by him, was acquired by DigitalThink. After this acquisition, Dr Tandon went on to float Adayana, which was later merged with Trina Systems, yet another custom-developer of e-learning systems and content. While there are several large players and a few hundred small players offering services in this space, the going is tough for custom-applications developers. This is one area, which has huge untapped opportunity. "For one hour of computer-based training input, about 500 hours of work has to be pooled in. At about $75 per hour in the US, it becomes an extremely challenging task. Look at the advantages an Indian company could possibly bring in by offering services at $15 an hour. Issues of outsourcing also don't crop up here."
"We are in the process of interacting with IITs for content development and are engaged with large corporations like Wipro, Tata Motors for various e-learning inputs."
