State and stage of crops: In paddy, land preparation and sowing of the `Puncha' crop is in progress. Irrigation, mulching and plant protection operations and seed nut collection are going on in coconut gardens. Harvesting and curing continued in clove and nutmeg while preparation for rooted cuttings is in progress in pepper. New planting, top dressing and irrigation are on in banana and vegetables.

Three-day advisory: Sowing of paddy, pulses and vegetables can be continued in rice fallows where irrigation is possible. The Puncha paddy in the seedling stage should be watched for pests such as thrips and gall midge. In cases of severe infestation, spraying of Quinalphos at 1.5 ml/litre of water may be resorted to.

In coconut, mulching and irrigation should be persisted with wherever facilities permitted it. The crown of palms should be cleaned and rhinoceros beetles, if any, should be hooked out and destroyed. Collection and storage of seed nuts can also be continued.
