TVS Motor sales up 4%

Our Bureau

Chennai , March 1

TVS Motor Company sold 96,408 two-wheelers in February compared with 92,951 in the same month last year, recording a four per cent rise.

However, the company sold fewer motorcycles during the month — 59,286 units compared with 61,265 units in the same period last year.

While sales of the 2-stroke `Max' vehicles dropped, the new product TVS Centra enjoyed good demand from the market.

The company had said earlier that it expected to sell 3,00,000 units of Centra in 2004-05.

The scooterette sales grew 37 per cent. TVS Motor sold 14,188 of these vehicles, compared with 10,329 units in February last year, "due to strong off-take of Scooty pep," according to a press release.

Moped sales stood at 22,934 units (21,357 units), up 7 per cent.
