AP power distribution company in top-500 list

Visakhapatnam , March 1

THE Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Ltd has achieved the distinction of reaching the 165th position among the top 500 companies in the country and is the only company in South India to do so and is rated as one of the top 10 power distribution companies, according to Mr V.V. Maheswara Reddy, Associate President of the EPDC Engineers' Federation.

At a press meet here on Monday, he said the federation would organise a function on Tuesday to celebrate the achievement and an engineers' handbook would be released on the occasion. A seminar on internal efficiency improvement would also be organised.

Mr Y. Gopalakrishna Murthy, the Chairman and Managing Director of the EPDC, would be the chief guest.

Mr Reddy said the EPDC had 800 engineers and it was covering the five districts of Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, East Godavari and West Godavari. He said the federation was striving all the time to improve customer service.

In the light of the New Electricity Act and the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulations Commission stipulations, the federation has appealed to the management to take the engineers into confidence in policy matters, as the new stipulations would entail payment of stiff fines to consumers for lapses in service.

Answering a query, he said, the company only took about four hours or so to attend to any complaint from the consumer. `Vidyut sadassulu' (conventions) were being organised every Monday to deal with the complaints of consumers, he said.

He said the company had succeeded in bringing down line loss from 19.23 per cent to 15.63 per cent and in urban areas the loss had been brought down to 5.87 per cent from 9.2 per cent. He said the company was serving 2.8 million consumers in the five districts.
