New Principal for ASCI

DR Siripurapu Kesava Rao on Monday took charge as the Principal of the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI), Hyderabad, from Dr E.A.S. Sarma, who completed a three-year term.

Dr Rao served the Commonwealth Secretariat, London, for 18 years in various capacities, including the first director of its Strategic Planning and Evaluation Division. During this period, he played an important role in restructuring the Commonwealth Secretariat and enlarging its mandate, according to a release from ASCI.

A post-graduate and doctorate from the University of Cambridge, Dr Rao taught economics at the University of Cambridge, Calcutta's Presidency College, Jawaharlal Nehru University and the University of Papua New Guinea. He was also a consultant to the United Nations.

Dr Rao served as the Economic Advisor in the Ministry of Commerce during 1986-87, during which he was involved in initiating trade policy reforms as Chairman of the Export Policy Committee and Member of the Import Policy Committee.

Meanwhile, the ASCI has also taken new members on its Court of Governors. They are the Chairman of Satyam Computer Services Ltd, Mr B. Ramalinga Raju; the Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary, Mr Mohan Kanda; and the Director/Vice-Chancellor of the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences, Dr Kakarla Subba Rao.
