Extravagant bashes

This is with reference to "Lavishness needs a leash" (Business Line, February 28).

The article has rightly pointed out the wastefulness of the extravagant bashes, and merits a supportive media campaign.

The extravagant bashes, which basically are personal in nature, are generally covered by the figleaf of business promotion and billed to a corporate entity at the cost of the exchequer and the shareholder. The CBDT must not accept at its face value the label of business promotion/interest.
