Ayurvedic drug trial by Nagarjuna group

KOCHI: Nagarjuna Ayurvedic Group has executed an agreement with Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, to conduct assessment studies of Cardo Guard tablet, a new anti-hypertensive combination drug developed by Nagarjuna.
Besides reducing blood pressure, it is expected to have beneficial effect on the heart by preventing cardio-vascular consequences, a release issued here said. The agreement envisages the assessment of the safety of the drug through toxicity studies; study of the effect of the drug on myocardial mechanics as well as its effectiveness in the regression of hypertrophy.
The project is jointly funded by the Department of Science and Technology, the Nagarjuna Group and SCTIMST. The agreement was signed by Dr K. Mohandas, Director, SCTIMST, and Mr N.V. Subramaniyam, General Manager (Works), Nagarjuna Ayurvedic Group.
