50% fee cut only for applicants using digital signatures: DGFT

K.R. Srivats

New Delhi , March 2

IN a bid to widen the use of digital signatures among the exporting community, the Directorate-General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has said that the 50 per cent fee waiver benefit would be available from April 1 only to those applicants who use the digital signature/electronic fund transfer route for obtaining licences.

Currently, the 50 per cent fee reduction is available for all online applications made to the DGFT for the purpose of obtaining licences. The application fees for licences are usually linked to the value of the licences.

From April 1, the facility of electronic filing of applications through the password route would be withdrawn, official sources said.

Up to March 31, an exporter will have the option to use the electronic filing through the password route or switch over to the digital signature/electronic fund transfer route. The 50 per cent fee reduction will be available in both the cases.

As part of the e-commerce initiatives unveiled on January 28 this year, the Commerce Ministry had allowed exporters to electronically file digitally signed signatures and to effect payment of application fees through electronic fund transfer.

The DGFT has now asked the export promotion councils and the Federation of Indian Export Organisation to "sensitise" their member exporters on the benefits of using digital signatures and the electronic fund transfer route for obtaining licences.
