Seminar on women entrepreneurs

Our Bureau

Chennai , March 3

IT is estimated that currently women entrepreneurs comprise about 10 per cent of total Indian entrepreneurs.

If the trend continues, it is likely that in the next five years women will make up about 20 per cent, or about five lakh people, of the total number of entrepreneurs in the country.

Against this background, a seminar on "Empowering young women through entrepreneurship" will be held in Chennai on March 8 to focus on generating employment for young women through entrepreneurship, elevating poverty and creating economic independency.

Talking to newspersons here today, Ms Lakshmi V. Venkatesan, Founding Trustee and Executive Vice-President, Bharat Yuva Shakti Trust (BYST), said the seminar would evolve strategies for non-government organisations, State and Central governments to work together on women empowerment.

The seminar is being organised by the trust, Confederation of Indian Industry, the Youth Employment Network and Tamil Nadu government.

The seminar will provide a platform for governments, business, financial institutions and multi-lateral agencies for taking concerted action on women-related issues.
