Health Exhibition on diabetes in Bangalore Our Bureau
Bangalore , March 4 REMEMBER those `awareness runs' on this disease or that? Now your health message is coming to you in a new, user-friendly medium. On March 6 and 7, Novo Nordisk will start at Bangalore its new exhibition series that promises to tell all that is to be known about diabetes. Targeted at the healthy as well as the diabetic, the exhibition called `Your diabetes world' will carry diet details, foot care tips, services and products for the diabetic. There will be tests for blood glucose, cholesterol and glycated haemoglobin measurement to know the extent of control over recent months, Novo Nordisk Education Foundation said in a release. The show will have educational panels, large displays of local diet and how to choose healthy food. According to Dr Anil Kapur, Chairman & Managing Trustee of the foundation, "The need to create awareness on diabetes is paramount today as diabetes is becoming a pandemic in India. The already existing 32 million people with diabetes and the rapidly rising numbers will constitute a substantial burden for India in the coming decade." More and more people are being diagnosed with diabetes at increasingly lower ages. India is already called the world's `diabetes capital' and the forecast is that the number of diabetics will swell to 78 million by 2030. Neglect of the disease can have severe and fatal results and also affect eyes, kidneys, hart, nerves and the limbs, NNEF said. The exhibition would tell the high-risk people how to avoid or delay the onset of the disease. The foundation is taking similar exhibitions to Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram, Lucknow and Guwahati in the local language and English. IT has organised 12 such mass awareness exhibitions and holds the `Run for diabetes' programme every November 14.
