Telecommunications `Global mobile industry to double' Our Bureau
New Delhi , March 4 THE mobile phone service industry worldwide is expected to double in size to around $ 1.5 trillion driven by emerging markets such as India and China, according to Mr. Jorma Ollila, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Nokia Corporation. Speaking to newspersons at the CII Telecom Summit 2004, he said that the key drivers of growth would be India, Russia, China, Indonesia and Brazil, which would account for over 80 per cent of global mobile subscriber growth in the next five years. He also pointed out that data services would account for 27 per cent of global operators revenue in 2007, up from 10 per cent in 2002. As regards the new rage that is sweeping across all markets - the camera phones - Mr Ollila forecast the industry is expected to sell 100 million camera phones this year.
