CII plans `branding' of cities, towns

Our Correspondent

Madurai , March 10

THE Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is planning of `branding of cities and towns' according to their strengths to provide a more focused approach to their development, according to Mr Arun Jain, Chairman, CII-Tamil Nadu.

On a visit to the city recently to address the members, he said that CII has taken a new path of coming to rural areas unlike in the past when it mainly confined to the industries. The focus on agriculture is because agriculture by itself is an industry.

He further said that branding of cities could help to harness the potential of particular city or town and lead to its growth. A place like to Tiruchi good at fabrication industry and education, could be branded on that basis and the place could be hub of those activities, drawing attention in expanding those areas.

Madurai is known for textiles and extensive branding promotion could be taken up by projecting this aspect. Similarly, Coimbatore city could be branded as the industrial centre, he explained.
