Foreign Trade FIEO signs MoU with Irish exporters' body Our Bureau
Kolkata , March 11 THE Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Asia Trade Forum of Irish Exporters' Association in Dublin recently. Talking to Business Line here recently, Mr G. Balachandran, Director-General of FIEO, said the signing of the MoU was a step forward by the two countries to identify areas of mutual co-operation. He said this would open up not only greater exchange of information between the business communities of both countries but also pave the way for greater export of items from India such as handicrafts and leather goods. The bilateral trade between India and Ireland during 2002-03 was at euro 192.2 million. According to Mr Balachandran, besides greater exchange of trade and investment information, the MoU would also lead to regular exchange of trade delegations, and holding of trade fairs, symposia, workshops etc in each other's territories. He expressed the hope that through greater efforts on the part of business communities of both countries, it may be possible to raise the bilateral trade level to euro 1 billion before the end of the current decade. Mr Balachandran said FIEO was also in the process of arranging a number of business delegations to SAARC and the Asean regions, besides two to West Asia, one to South America and one to West Europe. He said there would be buyer-seller meetings besides one-to-one interaction with businessmen of the host country.
