New Delhi , March 11

BHARAT Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has bagged the single largest contract from the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) for the supply of wellhead assemblies, christmas tree valves and gate valves, all of which are critical equipment used in the field of oil exploration.

According to the contract procured in the face of stiff competition from American, Japanese, Russian, Chinese and Romanian manufacturers, ONGC's projected offtake of this vital equipment from BHEL is estimated at about Rs 160 crore for the next three years. Almost one half of these orderswould have "deemed export" status, according to a BHEL statement here.
