Hyderabad , March 11

SATYAM Computer Services Ltd has bagged a contract from Nestlé, the world's largest food company.

It plans a dedicated overseas development centre in Bangalore and a disaster recovery centre in Hyderabad, the latter would be gradually converted into another ODC.

The three-year Nestle contract, details of which were not disclosed on non-disclosure agreement, is aimed at providing SAP application support for Nestle's GLOBE Business Excellence Programme and enhance performance and operational efficiency.

The Director and Senior Vice-President, Satyam Computer, Mr. Subu D Subramanian, in a video conference, said, "In the new wave of ERP (enterprise resource planning), global enterprises are consolidating on their past ERP investments and standardising the way their business operates. This has become a critical component for large corporations such as Nestle, Saint Gobain, Unilever and Du Pont with whom we work."

"This contract means a dedicated centre with 70 techies now that would grow to 250 in three months and also have another centre in Hyderabad. This second centre would be gradually ramped up to serve as a second centre that could also cover maintenance work. The objective is to serve as a strategic partner and consolidate their IT infrastructure," Mr Subramanian said.

Nestle has decided to outsource configuration and custom development activities to several suppliers. Satyam will provide custom development in the application development area of the project using SAP and other development tools. The custom development work includes development within the mySAP environment, interface to other systems and development of Nestlé legacy applications.

Forrester Research, Inc has acknowledged Satyam as a top choice for SAP support among offshore service providers. The company has about 1,200 dedicated professionals in SAP practice spread across multiple locations.
