Power supply to AP farms not to be disrupted

Hyderabad , March 11

THE Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (APTransco) is exploring all possibilities for purchase of additional power during March and April to ensure adequate supply of electricity to its consumers in general and agriculture in particular.

The power utility is currently purchasing power from various sources including 200 MW from Tata Power Ltd, 600 MW from Power Trading Corporation, 200 MW from NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam and 50 MW from captive power plants belonging to Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and Navabharat Ferro Alloys Ltd. The power utility is also overdrawing 368 MW from the central power generating stations. On account of this, APTransco will be incurring an additional expenditure of Rs 200 crore.

According to APTransco's Joint Managing Director, Mr Sai Prasad, and Director (Co-ordination), Mr P.M.K. Gandhi, it is estimated that an additional power ranging from 6.6 MU to 19.6 MU per day will be required to meet the demand this month and next month. Hence, the power utility is looking forward for additional power purchases from captive power units.

They told newspersons here on Thursday that APTransco had constituted special teams that were inspecting the areas under sub-stations to monitor the crop situation.

Round-the-clock control rooms have been opened at district headquarters so that the farmers could contact officials if there was any problem pertaining to power supply.
