Health Workshop on angioplasty in Hyderabad from March 20 Our Bureau
Hyderabad , March 11 A TEAM of cardiologists from India and France will demonstrate live to a gathering of 300 cardiologists from across the country the advantages of angioplasty through wrist (a technique of radial artery) at a two-day workshop to be held here from March 20. While the French team will be led by senior interventional cardiologist Dr Yves Louvard, Mr C. Raghu, chief interventional cardiologist at Yashoda Hospitals, would head the Indian team. The beauty of the technique of radial artery is that it is safe, comfortable and convenient, unlike the one done through the artery of thigh, Dr G.S. Rao, Executive Director of Yashoda, told a press conference here today. "The procedure for performing angiography and angioplasty through wrist is fast catching up in the West. It is gaining popularity in India too," he said. The first Indo-French transradial workshop, being jointly organised by Yashoda Hospital and cardiologists from ICPS (Paris), was aimed at upgrading the Indian cardiologists to the latest techniques being practised globally. "This will also help the doctors share their views and exchange expertise," he said. A high-grade angioplasty stent camp would be held simultaneously where about 30 angioplasty procedures would be performed. "One-third of the cases will be performed without charging any fee, while another one-third of patients will be charged only for consumables," Dr Rao said.
