E-Commerce & E-Business Amadeus rolls out e-ticket for global travel Our Bureau
New Delhi , March 12 AMADEUS India, a provider of global distribution system (GDS), on Friday announced the rollout of e-tickets. For the service delivery, Amadeus has partnered 11 international airlines, including Air France, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Swiss International, Lufthansa and Singapore Airlines, among others. Addressing a press conference here, the Managing Director, Amadeus, Indian Sub-continent, Mr Ankur Bhatia, said that as a preparatory step for the rollout of e-ticket, Amadeus has invested in training personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). "During the first phase, 3,500 CISF personnel have been trained on the acceptance of e-tickets in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Bangalore," Mr Bhatia said. Apart from international airlines, Amadeus is also exploring the possibility of bringing about e-ticketing for domestic travel also, Mr Bhatia said. "We are in an advance stage of talks with domestic airlines for the rollout," he said. In a statement, the company has said that the Amadeus Electronic Ticket Server will serve as the back-end integrating system for the international airlines enabling the delivery of e-tickets in a cost-efficient manner and also helping to cut ticket costs. With e-tickets, the cost of a ticket to an airline is expected to fall under $1, from the current $7 that it costs for the conventional paper ticket. In the e-ticketing model, once an agent confirms a reservation, an electronic ticket will be generated and then sent across to the traveller by e-mail, fax or mail along with an itinerary receipt. The traveller would then use this as a reference while checking in at the airport, thus doing away with the need to physically carry the conventional paper-based ticket.
