Seven cos coming to ARCI Incubator

AT LEAST seven private start-up companies are in the process of establishing their semi-commercial production units with an investment of more than Rs 7 crore at the Advanced Materials Technology Incubator (AMTI) here.

Capri Cables will set up its production facility to manufacture 40,000 heat pipe heat sink assemblies of various sizes per year, according to Mr R. Samuel Johnson, company Director. The foundation stone for the Rs 1-crore venture at the AMTI, the Technology Incubator Park promoted by the International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy & New Materials was recently laid by the Secretary, Union Department of Science and Technology (DST), Prof. V.S. Ramamurthy.

The Capri Cables Director said the heat pipe heat sinks are used in cooling of semiconductor devices in electronic and rectifier industries, waste heat recovery, dryers, cooling of transformer oil, control panel/optic cable junction box cooling, Laptop computers and cryogenics.

The technology has been developed by ARCI in association with a well-established Institute in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS)countries. It has already been successfully tested by ARCI. The project is being partially funded by the Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council, under its home-grown technology programme, according to the ARCI Director, Dr G. Sundararajan.

The ARCI has adopted a pro-active technology transfer policy through which it assists technology receiving private units to get tied up with financing institutions, marketing assistance, in addition to providing all the facilities in the AMTI, Mr H. Purushotham, Head, Technology Transfer and Marketing told Business Line.

The AMTI has incubated companies in detonation gun painting technology, catalytic converters, high quality ferrites in the last few years. The Department of Science and Technology has been the main promoter of this first technology incubator in the country at ARCI, which in turn, has a slew of cutting edge technologies from research institutes of the CIS nations.
