WITH tripping and technical problems hitting several power generating units across the State, reduced supply from central generating stations and shortage in hydel power, the Andhra Pradesh Government is taking steps to regulate the demand to agriculture and other consumers.
The Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh said it would ensure assured hours of supply to agricultural consumers, while regulating power supply beyond assured hours in towns and villages, depending on the demand/supply position.
The units 9,10 each of 250 MW at the KTPS-Vth stage tripped during the night of March 11. Similarly, the 500 MW (Andhra Pradesh has share of 150 MW) unit 8 at the NTPC, Ramagundam tripped due to boiler tube leak problem around the same time.
Already, the Unit-3 at Talcher (Andhra Pradesh's share of 110 MW) was not in service owing to performance guarantee tests and there was reduced generation at Simhadri TPS (100 MW) due to hydrogen cooler gasket leakage. Again the Talcher Unit-4 (40 MW reduction to Andhra Pradesh) due to bottom ash problems.
The KTPS Unit-8 (110 MW) has been taken out of service due to boiler drum problem. All these have resulted in a total loss of generation of about 770 MW.
Further, out of the 800 MW of contracted power purchase by APTransco through Power Trading Corporation, only 150 to 250 MW was being made available due to outage of generation in other regions, the APTransco said in a release.
