CTC varieties ease at Kochi tea sale

A FAIR general demand persisted for almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction. Of the quantity of 789,000 kg on offer in the dust category, CTC market barely steady and tended to ease. Orthodox dust was fully firm to dearer.

The best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 52 and Rs 70, medium CTC realised Rs 45-50 and poorer type were quoted Rs 35-40. Highgrown BOPD fetched prices between Rs 55 and Rs 117, while medium BOPD realised Rs 35-38. Secondaries were quoted Rs 30-33.

The leaf sale also witnessed a fair general demand and the quantity on offer was 244,000 kg. Orthodox leaf grades were fully firm to sometimes dearer. CTC medium and high priced teas barely steady and tended to ease. Low priced teas were fully firm to dearer. Exporters to CIS operated in less strength. Secondaries and low priced Orthodox witnessed good demand for other exporters.

The best Nilgiri varieties commanded prices between Rs 45 and Rs 66, medium orthodox realised Rs 35-62. The best CTC leaf fetched prices between Rs 53 and Rs 60, while medium CTC leaf realised Rs 37-45.

In the dust category, Kodanaad CL-BOPD fetched the best prices of Rs 117 followed by Havukal BOPD by Rs 107. In the leaf varieties, Tiger Hill FOP-CL realised the best prices of Rs 138 followed by Kodanaad BOPF-CL by Rs 102.
