ANTICIPATING continued growth in the system- level electronic design automation (EDA) space, the US-based supplier of EDA software and service — CoWare Inc has established a research and development facility in India, at Noida .

CoWare India Private Ltd, the wholly-owned subsidiary of CoWare Inc would, according to company sources, be initially responsible for research and development and system-level IP model library creation of the company's products.

The CoWare Inc Chief Financial Officer, Mr Peter Calverley, in an e-mail interview to Business Line said that the company would leverage the availability of top-level engineering talent in its India office. "The initial CoWare India team comes from Cadence Design Systems, Inc, as part of the transfer of its SPW (signal processing work system) product line, through a partnership that was finalised in late 2003. The team will continue its work with SPW, and will expand to work on all CoWare development projects.'

According to him, the customers in the Asia Pacific region would benefit from the combined efforts of the two companies as the local teams continue to develop joint solutions.

Mr Caverley said the system level design flow enabled to cut down the total design time by 50 per cent. While the awareness level for such solutions was high in Japan, Korea and Europe, it was just beginning to take off in the US and Asia-Pacific region.

To a query on why the company looked at India as a potential hub for setting up an R & D facility, Mr. Caverley said the proximity to the Japanese, Korean and European markets, where such products were more widely used compelled the company to set up an arm in India.
