C-DAC develops vehicle tracking system

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Geomatics Solutions Development Group (GSDG) of the Centre for Development of Advanced Accounting (C-DAC), Pune, in association with C-DAC, Thiruvananthapuram, has successfully implemented an experimental project on Vehicle Tracking and Information System (VTIS) in two Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation buses along the Pune-Nasik route.

Disclosing this, Mr R. Raveendra Kumar, Head, Corporate Communications, C-DAC, Thiruvananthapuram, told Business Line here that the VTIS was based on GPS (Global Positioning System) and GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) technologies. It provides information on the location of vehicles and its movement in real time. This will facilitate bus depots to monitor the behaviour of the driver and the vehicle, its travelling speed, exact location on the map, vacant seats and stops on the way.
