IT-enabled Services Tata Indicom unit to go aggressive on ITES cos Our Bureau
Bangalore , March 15 TATA Indicom Enterprise Business Unit on Monday said it planned to offer value-added services to the bandwidth-intensive IT and ITES industries. The Unit President, Mr Sandeep Mathur, told presspersons that the company has adopted a three-fold strategy for the telecom data needs of IT and ITES companies. It has set up a cable between Chennai and Singapore at an investment of around $100 million for international connectivity and to increase the NLD network for domestic connectivity. The company, which was formed in April 2003, will also offer customised telecom solutions for these industries. For example, it has launched managed IP voice minutes product specifically for ITES industries. Mr Mathur said between April 2003 and January this year, the company had picked up business worth around Rs 475 crore. "We can't put a figure to the projected growth because of the frequent fluctuations in tariffs," he said. He said the demand for bandwidth was growing at 100 per cent during the last three years with telecom spends being 10 per cent of the annual revenue expenditure of IT and ITES industries. The enterprise segment in India contributes nearly 70 per cent of the overall telecom revenue. Mr Mathur said during the first year of operations of the unit, these industries have contributed about 60 per cent of the orders booked by the company. Of this, the Bangalore market has contributed over 40 per cent of the orders from these industries. The unit is the single point interface through which the Tata companies, including VSNL, Tata Teleservices, Tata Teleservices Maharashtra and Tata Internet Services deliver telecom services to key enterprise customers of the Tata group across the country. The company has acquired over 500 companies during the last 11 months.
