`With more MNCs looking to set base in India and the outsourcing business growing, demand is expected to increase steadily.'

New Delhi , March 15

INDIA has returned the best revenue growth of 32 per cent for server vendors in 2003 thanks to increased deployment in finance, banking and telecom sectors, according to a study of Asia-Pacific server market conducted by Dataquest Inc, a unit of research firm Gartner.

"The Indian market has been growing steadily, given the healthy economy and improved business confidence," according to Mr Vinod Nair, Analyst (Computing Systems) at Gartner India.

According to a Gartner press release, the Indian server revenue stood at $327 million in 2003 compared with $247.9 million in 2002.

"With more multinational companies looking to set base in India and the outsourcing business growing by leaps, demand for both Intel and Unix servers is expected to increase steadily in 2004," Mr Nair said.

The Asia-Pacific server vendors' revenues totalled above $5 billion in 2003, a 6.7-per cent increase over 2002, the release said.

China was ranked on top for server vendor revenues in Asia-Pacific with a 32.4-per cent market share. Its share increased from 31.6 per cent in 2002.

"China grew 9.8 per cent in 2003. Growth in uptake of low-end Intel servers propelled revenue for vendors, especially from the small and medium businesses and also from Government, finance and telecom verticals."
