THE Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Southern Region, had over the past few months initiated a series of measures for women empowerment, market linkage for self-help groups (SHG), vocational training course and livelihood programmes to make women economically independent.

According to a press release, under the market linkage initiative, CII has identified six SHGs of 120 members for the supply of paper bags to Tata Teleservices Ltd. Other SHGs are now supplying seafood, fruits, vegetables and food to Taj Coromandel. These SHGs now plan to expand their business to other hotel chains in the city.

CII has also identified a three-member SHG for housekeeping work at eBrahma Technologies.

CII, in partnership with the Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women and the Kerala Catholic Society, has jointly organised vocational training programmes on call centres and retail.
