Retailing Domino's Pizza to open 9 more outlets soon Sriram Srinivasan
Chennai , March 15 DOMINO'S Pizza India Ltd, promoted by Jubilant Organosys, plans to open nine more outlets in major cities in the next six months. The company, which only recently inaugurated its seventh outlet in Chennai, will open one more in the city, one in Hyderabad, two each in Bangalore and Delhi, and three in Mumbai, said its Operations Manager (Chennai), Mr Sajith Nair. The expansion will help take the total number of its outlets past the 100 mark. With over three-fourths of Domino's revenues coming from deliveries, and the rest from eat-ins, the company has opted to expand in the major centres where the concept of pizza delivery is more in vogue. "We see a huge potential in deliveries. Corporate clients are increasing," thanks to an increasing number of youngsters in top jobs today; "kids are also a target segment," said Mr Nair. Currently, about 80 per cent of Domino's outlets are in the six major cities. In 2002, the company quit four markets Jaipur, Bhopal, Indore and Nagpur because its "business model didn't suit the cities." Domino's USP of pizza delivery in 30 minutes couldn't make an impact in these places where the "concept didn't really pick up then," said Mr Nair. The company, however, does not have any immediate plans to revisit these markets or open outlets in cities in which it does not have a presence, he said.
