Honour for AP scientist

HYDERABAD: Dr Mannava V.K. Sivakumar, an agri-meteorologist, has been elected as Member of the Royal Academy of Overseas Sciences of Belgium.

The Technical Sciences section of the Academy, to which he has been elected, has a maximum of 60 members, 10 of them foreign.

Dr Sivakumar, Chief of Agricultural Meteorology Division of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), Switzerland is the only Indian among the 10, according to a release. The Guntur-born scientist carried out agroclimatology research at the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (Icrisat).

The Iowa State University nominated him in March 2001 to serve as one of nine `World's Foremost Agronomists' on the Baker Endowment Advisory Council for Excellence in Agronomy to offer advice on best uses of the endowment fund totalling $80 million.
