Bangalore , March 16

INFINEON Technologies India plans to double its R&D headcount to cater to the group's increased needs for software in systems solutions.

Mr Thomas Simonis, Managing Director, said Bangalore was a software competency centre for the company while its more than 40 other R&D centres across the world were involved in IC-design.

"With an increased focus on system solutions, Infineon's software requirements are increasing," said Mr Simonis.

About 80 per cent of its 200-strong team is involved in software development while the rest did IC design and tools development, he said. The Indian software inputs cover wireless technologies, protocols, signal processing, security applications, etc.

Infineon was working with some of the third party providers in India and would continue to do so based on requirements, Mr Simonis said, declining to name the providers.
