Outsourcing

This is with reference to "Outsourcing : India can help US offset job losses" (Business Line, March 17). Though the US backlash on outsourcing is dictated by that country's election compulsions, yet Mr Colin Powell's observation about the inevitability of the outsourcing in the 21st century is applicable to India as much as it applies to the US.

With increased competition owing to globalisation, the companies are forced to look offshore for competitiveness in terms of cost, quality and technical skills. It is naïve to think India is immune to this situation with Indian companies going global with mergers and acquisitions. Therefore, Mr Powell's suggestion for trade reforms is worth considering as India has much to gain from the business experience of the developed world in terms of technology, quality, punctuality and skills.
