A NUMBER of sponge iron units are complaining that the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) has discriminated in its latest round of ore price revision.

As a result, the final price of iron ore available to various units from the public sector undertaking (PSU) are not uniform. The price difference is more acute among the coal-based and the gas-based units.

When contacted, an NMDC spokesperson said that there has been no discrimination and no concession has been granted to any customer.

"It is the difference in the product and technology which has resulted in the price differential. It also depends on the technology that the client is using," said the spokesperson.

According to the spokesperson, the requirements for coal-based plants and gas-based plants are different and depend on the heat bearing capacity of the raw material.
