Medical Institutions & Hospitals ICMR to host Web site, animal advisory board Our Bureau
Hyderabad , March 18 THE Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has taken up a project to e-link all its research institutes and create Web sites with an investment of Rs 3.5 crore, according to its Director-General, Prof N.K. Ganguly. Another initiative launched by the apex medical research organisation was the constitution of an animal advisory board, to give a push to medical research, which requires animal experiments, by accelerating the process of approvals and ensuring ethical guidelines are followed, the ICMR Chief told newspersons here. The e-link project would connect the over 25 ICMR institutes like the National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad; Tuberculosis Research Centre, Chennai; National Institute of Virology, Pune; Institute of Reproductive Research, Mumbai; Malaria Research Centre, New Delhi, and the National Institute of Occupational Health, Ahmedabad. Dr Ganguly said data about various health and nutrition issues would be made accessible to the people through the Web sites. A special Chat Page, where questions can be asked is being designed. "We assure you of responses," the ICMR Chief said. Dr Ganguly said the Ethical Guidelines for carrying out clinical trials have been finalised and once approved by the Government would get legal status. The ICMR Chief launched the Web site of the National Institute of Nutrition www.ninindia.org/ designed and developed by Inteq Software Ltd on Wednesday.
