Cinema Ladies Coupe on a positive frame Our Bureau
Mumbai , March 19 AN Indo-US film production, showcased as one of the positives of FICCI-Frames, was launched during the three-day convention. The film titled, Ladies Coupe, based on a book by Anita Nair, brings together Jeetu Chawla's Castle Peak Pictures and Asian Movie Works, the US-based production company. The shooting of $2-million film is slated to commence from September and is likely to be ready for release by Spring 2005, said Mark Byers, Executive Producer, Asian Movie Works. The two production companies will share the cost of the film apiece. The producers are currently short-listing the screenplay writer for the film as well as the cast. "The film will be directed by an American while the screenplay will be written by an India," Chawla said. Anita Nair will be the consultant on the screenplay writing. The co-production between the two companies commenced at FICCI-Frames 2003. Ladies Coupe, according to Nair, is a story of one woman's search for strength and independence. Akhila, the main protagonist of the story, works as an income-tax clerk and has never been allowed to live her own life. Until the day she gets herself a one-way ticket to Kanyakumani. On her journey inside the ladies coupe, she meets five other women and get to know her fellow travellers - Janaki, pampered wife and confused mother; Margeret Soderberg, a chemistry teacher of American origin, married to the poetry of elements; Prabha Devi, the perfect daughter and wife; Sheela, a 14-year-old; and Marikolanthu.
