Kerala: Pulse polio campaign

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The third phase of the National Pulse Polio Immunisation Campaign in the State will be taken up on April 4, an official spokesman quoted Dr V.K. Rajan, Director of Health Services, as saying here.

As part of the programme, 29.46 lakh children under the age of five years will be administered oral polio vaccine on that day. House to house visits will be conducted and all efforts made to target those children who had not been covered during the earlier campaign.

Addressing a meeting of the State-level Co-ordination Committee and Pulse Polio Immunisation Media Committee here, Dr Rajan said 39.18 lakh doses of vaccine would be used to cover the 29.46 children targeted.

The Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Mr E.K. Bharat Bhushan, presided over the meeting. Dr B. Madhav Ram, Surveillance Medical Officer-in-charge of the National Polio Surveillance Project, made a presentation on the conduct of the immunisation programme. Dr T. K. Kuttamani, Additional Director of Health Services, proposed a vote of thanks.
