THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government has announced allocation of 11,000 tonnes of rice as drought relief, an official spokesman said on Monday.
This is over and above the 55,000 tonnes allocated already. The allocations have been made as part of the Sampoorna Grameen Rozgar Yojana (Special Component) programme and included under the `Food for Work' scheme.
The district-wise allocations are as follows (in tonnes): Alappuzha, Kannur and Kasaragod - 1,000 each, Kottayam - 1,500, Kozhikode and Malappuram - 1,750, Palakkad - 2,000 and Wayanad - 1,000.
The district collectors have been asked to procure the allocations from the respective godowns of the Food Corporation of India, identify work that fall in line with the `Food-for-Work' specifications and distribute the grains accordingly. The guidelines also stipulate that at least 25 per cent of the remuneration will have to be made out in cash.
