Our Bureau

Coimbatore , March 22

THE Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Institute of Textile Management, the national textile management institute promoted by the Union Ministry of Textiles, will formally launch its management studies this July.

Initially, the course will be a one-year post-diploma programme in home textiles followed by a two-year post-diploma in textile management with information technology as focus and this may be started by September next. Dr H.P. Bhattacharya, newly appointed advisor of the institute, told presspersons that the national institute being promoted as the public-private partnership may keep the number of candidates for textile management course at 40 and may not go beyond 60.

The high-level faculty selection committee has already completed the selection of candidates for information technology, textile engineering, marketing and for remaining faculties such as finance and human resource, and by May 15, the faculty selection would be in place.

The institute is expected to get contributions from the major textile bodies in the region such as the Southern India Mills Association and the Tirupur Exporters Association, which would help in the building of classrooms.
