APERC fiat on electricity bills

Our Bureau

HYDRABAD: Those who vacate their premises in the middle of a month hereafter need not wait till the receipt of the regular bill for clearance of electricity charges.

As per the regulation notified by the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC), the occupant of any premises planning to vacate it can seek special meter reading by informing the power distribution company in advance so that a special bill may be issued to facilitate payment of electricity charges for the period of his occupation.

The Regulation on Electricity Supply Code, notified on March 17, stipulates that the licensee should take the meter readings on the prescribed date and distribute bills at least 10 days before the due date of payment. The distribution company should provide the meter-reading card or pass book at the consumer's premises. The consumers are also provided with the facility of making advance payments against the bills to be raised from time to time.
