Canon to strengthen channel network

Coimbatore , March 24

CANON India Private Ltd, the 100-per cent subsidiary of Canon Singapore Pte, is aiming to emerge as the No 1 digital imaging company in the country by 2005.

Having achieved a leadership status in Gujarat and Rajasthan, Canon India proposes to consolidate its position by strengthening its channel network during the current year.

According to IDC (International Data Corporation) survey, Canon's market share (in Rajasthan) in the inkjet printer space swelled to 59 per cent in the last quarter of 2003 compared to 31 per cent during the first quarter of the same year.

The success in Rajasthan has been attributed to the marketing and brand building initiatives taken by the company.

The company has already established its presence 50 cities across Rajasthan through its network of 100 CEP's (Canon Empowered Partner) and 5 service points. In 2004, this reach, according to company sources, would spread to over 60 cities through an expanded CEP base of 150 with 10 service points.

Apart from these, Canon has planned several marketing and brand building activities such as advertising, focused channel schemes and new product launches.

Commenting on Canon's strong performance in 2003 and the company's plans for India, Mr Alan Grant, President and CEO, Canon India, said, "We achieved 30 per cent market share in the overall Inkjet printer category in India. We are now aiming at becoming India's No. 1 Digital Imaging Company by 2005 and expect to have a 40 per cent share of the inkjet printer market and 30 per cent market share across all other major product categories of the Indian Digital Imaging market."
