Essar takes delivery of VLCC

ESSAR Shipping has taken delivery of India's first double-hull VLCC (Very Large Crude Carrier) as part of its plans to become a major player in the energy transportation business.

The 3.10-lakh DWT vessel, with a double bottom, is also the largest ship ever to be bought and owned by an Indian shipping company. It has a carrying capacity of two million barrels of crude oil.

According to a press release, with the new vessel, Essar's fleet has gone up to 30 with a total tonnage of 1.65 million DWT. All its six Suezmax tankers are double hull and double bottom.
