Silpaulin sheets launched

Our Bureau

KOTTAYAM: A low-cost method of rainwater harvesting using Silpaulin sheets is becoming popular among the farmers in high ranges. Silpaulin is a multi-layered and cross-laminated plastic sheet, which is used for rainwater preservation.

To store 5 lakh litres of rainwater in a Silpaulin tank, the cost is around Rs 70,000, much cheaper than plastic or cement tanks, said Mr Sam George who supervised a few experiments conducted by the farmers. The experiments proved that the water stored in Silpaulin tanks could be used both for irrigation and drinking purposes. It is being manufactured by only one factory in India and is available in different gauges, said Mr George.
