Telecommunications IDEA Cellular to invest Rs 300 cr in Maharashtra circle Our Bureau
Mumbai , March 25 IDEA Cellular today announced that it has crossed the one million- subscriber mark in its Maharashtra circle. The company plans to invest Rs 300 crore in the new financial year and upgrade the circle network to GPRS by May , said Mr Vikram Mehmi, Chief Executive Officer, IDEA Cellular. The company said it has witnessed unprecedented growth in the circle through increased subscriptions in both the pre-paid and post-paid segments, which have been growing consistently in the clusters of Pune, Goa, Nagpur, Nasik, Aurangabad, Kolhapur, Solhapur, Ulhasnagar, a news release from the company said. The growth is also seen in many upcountry locations that are extensively covered with IDEA's "well-entrenched" network, the release said. The company's current market share is 60 per cent in the circle and it has also garnered 45 per cent of all net additions in February last , as per the Cellular Operators Association of India figures. IDEA has a network of over 10,000 dealers and retailers in the A, B and C class cities across the circle, which includes Maharashtra and Goa.
