MANGALORE: Indian printers should know the cost of production to compete in the global market, according to the Managing Director of Heidelberg (I) Ltd, Mr Ole S. Rasmussen.

He was the chief guest at "Vectra - 2004", an international convention on printing and media technology, organised by Manipal Institute of Technology in Manipal on Thursday.

"The printer should know whether he has made a net profit or incurred net loss on an order. This will help the printer gain insight in his business," he said.

Terming printing industry as the third largest industry in the world, the Vice-Chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Dr H.S. Ballal, said that the convention would help delegates update their knowledge.

Mr Ramdas Pai, President of MAHE, inaugurated the convention.
