Rs 9.22 cr for drought relief in Kerala

KOCHI: The district administration has stepped up drought relief measures, with the district-level crisis management committee taking stock of the situation.

As many as 79 of 117 villages in the district have been declared drought-affected. While all villages of the Kunnathunadu and Muvattupuzha taluks have been drought-hit, the Kothamangalam taluk has the least number of affected villages.

The District Collector said a total of Rs 9.22 crore had been allocated to tackle the drought situation in the district. While Rs 57.5 lakh were allocated for various major and minor irrigation projects, Rs 67.5 lakh was given to the Kerala Water Authority to complete different projects in the two main sections of Kochi.
