SOUTH Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL), a profit making subsidiary of Coal India Ltd (CIL), is set to create a record by producing at least two million tonnes (mt) more against the targeted production of 69 mt for the 2003-04 fiscal. The production target has already been achieved on March 23 and the company now expects to end the current fiscal with a total production of about 71 mt as against previous year's production of 66.6 mt.
The company expects to provide hundred per cent satisfaction to its linked consumers by dispatching the targeted quantity of about 70 mt, while unsold pithead coal stock is likely to touch at 4 mt.
SECL's Chairman and Managing Director, Mr M.K. Thapar said that the company had been able to increase production by 4.4 mt over the previous year's total production of 66.6 mt without, in fact, making any major investment on equipment and machinery. The higher production was possible through improving productivity of its existing equipment and machinery.
