Coffee Industry & Economy - Exports & Imports Logistics - Shipping Coffee husk export thru Malpe port Our Bureau
MANGALORE: The Union Government has permitted the export of coffee husk through Malpe port in Udupi district. Mr S.M. Akhter, Under-Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Department of Revenue, informed this to the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) in a letter recently. According to a press release here, KCCI had requested the Central Board of Excise and Customs to notify Malpe Port for export of coffee husk following a representation by one of its member, Hibathullah Enterprises, Mangalore, in this regard. On April 15, 2002, Hibathullah Enterprises submitted a letter to the Commissioner of Customs in Mangalore requesting the latter to effect the shipment of coffee husk at Malpe port during May. Hibathullah Enterprises, which had chartered a mechanised sailing vessel for the shipment of 300 tonnes of coffee husk to Mokha Port in the Republic of Yemen, had said that the channel bar of Old Mangalore Port was rough during May and vessels did not enter port due to inadequate water level. In view of that it had sought berthing of the vessel at Malpe Port. Hibathullah Enterprises had stated that Malpe Port had adequate water level.
