Kolkata , March 26

THE Calcutta High Court, here on Friday declared the propositions of the West Bengal Government for paying lifetime tax for two-wheelers and four wheelers as " ultra vires".

After extensively hearing petitions filed against the State Government's notification on lifetime tax by several parties including the Automobile Association of Eastern India, Mr Justice Bhaskar Bhattacharyya has further directed the State Government to return the entire amount collected on that account with interest through State Bank of India to parties who have already deposited the amount as directed by the State earlier.
