Supply Chain Management Lufthansa Cargo to airlift DHL shipments from India Our Bureau
Mumbai , March 29 LUFTHANSA Cargo and DHL have entered into a deal wherein the former with airlift DHL shipments from India, beginning Tuesday. The first Lufthansa Cargo MD 11 freighter to carry DHL shipments touches down at Delhi at 11:35 a.m. on March 30, the start of the summer flight schedule, and departs the same day at 13:05 p.m. to Cologne. This additional flight by Lufthansa Cargo, which will operate during the first five days every week, will not only give DHL additional guaranteed cargo space to enhance its time-definite deliveries but expand the number of DHL entry points from India to Europe. In an official statement, Mr Chris Callen, Country Manager, DHL India, said: "With the addition of the freighter option to DHL's current alliances with commercial airlines, DHL entry points from India into the West have increased, offering greater connectivity. That means not only greater choice and improved delivery reliability but later cut-off times for pick-ups thanks to improved departure times." He added: "It also gives us additional capacity to carry heavier shipments as we have guaranteed blocked space on Lufthansa. Commodities such as spare parts, machinery, samples and equipment can now be delivered even faster because of the reduced transit times." Mr Callen also that DHL customers in India would benefit in three distinct ways - later pick-ups providing better transit times, guaranteed uplift of heavy shipments, and immediate local clearance of shipments.
