World Diamond Council meet from today in Dubai

Mumbai , March 29

THE third annual World Diamond Council (WDC) meeting, sponsored by the Dubai Metals and Commodities Centre (DMCC), will be held in Dubai on March 30 and 31.

The meeting will focus on the development of the diamond industry, the Kimberley Process (KP) and banker's perspectives of the diamond trade.

Mr Nicky Oppenheimer, De Beers' Chairman, will discuss the development of the industry. The role of the banking sector will be moderated by Mr Peter Gross, ABN AMRO (International Division) Senior Vice-President and General Manager, and will involve a cross-section of international banks servicing the global diamond industry, according to Rapaport Newswire.

The new KP Chairman, Mr Tim Martin, will lead discussions on its certification scheme, supported by Mr Abbey Chikane, former chairman, and Mr Viatcheslav Shtyrov, President of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia).
